For this project, I had to extract the subject of the photo from the original background and put them in front of a different, textured background using layer masks. I used a layer mask and a brush to take the subject out of their original background. This was a bit of a difficult process because I had to be fairly accurate in some areas. I switched between black and white colors. I would use black to erase parts of the background and white to restore parts of the subject in areas where I erased too much. Once I had the subject completely separated from the original background and used the new textured background I used the blending options on the mask layer to create a drop shadow. I also changed the hue and saturation in order to make the subject appear more natural when paired with the new background. As instructed for the final step, I took a famous quote from a movie (Terminator 2: Judgment Day) and used it. I felt it was at least somewhat fitting for the subject, given their attire and weapons.
